Today's featured Etsy shop... Joannie's Country Shop

My name is Phyllis and my Etsy shop is Joannie's Country Shop.

When did you start your Etsy shop?
November 17, 2011.

What is the story behind your business name?
In the winter of 2011, my husband was laid off from work and did not know when he would be recalled back to work. So we were down to one income and we needed to do something to support our family. When spring came we started doing local flea markets and we did this all spring and summer of 2011. With winter approaching very quickly we had to figure out what to do next. My husband had worked with wood for over 35 years and my boss had given us some old pallets that he was going to burn. We took the pallets and we started making picture frames and putting pictures with them and his son told us about Etsy (which we had never heard of before than). We figured what could it hurt to try it. So now we are making crates, serving trays, ladders and benches just to name a few items.

What do you sell?
We sell home decor and furniture from reclaimed wood.

How did you get into your craft?
My husband started woodworking when he was in high school and he loved it. He has been dong woodworking ever since. We work together on creating, handcrafting, and managing all aspects of our business.

Anything else you would like to share?
My husband did get called back to work and we are still selling on Etsy and we still do some flea markets and craft shows. This is what we love to do. Each item that is crafted by us is made with such pride and joy. I guess you can say we throw our hearts into each item that we produce.
