Going on a rock hunt... hubby's way!

Andrew and I are always on the look out for different outdoor spots to take photos for Gone to the Dogs. Today after shooting at the mill with Sydney we dropped her off with his mom, we grabbed some snacks, and went on a rock hunt.

However for me, the gal from Los Angeles, I'm used to going down to a hardware store, pick out my rocks, and telling them where to deliver it. My dad even had one put in our front yard that was huge just so Bekah could have her dream of having a rock to sit on to put on her shoes.

However this is not how hubby does it! I had a blast and it got my mind off of things but Sydney is mad to be left at home (the ham helped with that) and I'm sore in places I shouldn't be.

Things started off simply enough and we headed up to Jack's River. I noticed some nice rocks without going to far into the wilderness but we kept exploring. It was beautiful out there and we got the rocks we needed and turned for home.

And then I saw this rock...
I thought it looked like the perfect spot for photos and pointed it out to Andrew just so he would have a reference point for what to look for if we went out looking again for a place to take photos. We try and use a variety of places outside to take dog toy photos. Well he turned around and we got out and took photos of the 12 dog toys we had with us. I'm pretty sure the drivers that passed by thought we were nuts.

These are the pictures we took at Prater's Mill and also up at Jack's River.

Welcome to Gone to the Dogs!
Welcome to Gone to the Dogs! We offer crocheted toys in the shape of stars and ticks. The star dog toys have tennis balls inside and for the ticks you can add a rattle, bell, or squeaker to the toy or it can be done with just stuffing. Keep coming back every day because our shop is constantly changing what is available based on what I crochet. You can also come visit us at the Downtown Dalton Saturday Market or in Calhoun at the Thursday Market by Piggly Wiggly during the summer season.

Today's featured Etsy shop... Hooked On MOeZ

My name is MOes and my Etsy shop is Hooked On MOeZ.

When did you start your Etsy shop?
Shop is nearly 5 years old. Feb 5th (the other half of my shops bday) is the big day when we turn 5 on Etsy

What is the story behind your business name?
I started off on here as just MOesCrochet. Moe is a nickname that goes all the way back to middle school for me where me and a group of my friends all had names like this and yes it is spelled that way intentionally although I have to say my husband isn’t so thrilled about it today as he often gets thought of being the Moe of our operation haha where he is just the Z! The Z comes from his nickname back in the days of chat rooms where he went by the name CrazyZ which came from it’s own complicated past… So when he began to help out more and we started putting his caramel into the shop we gave the shop a rename of HookedOnMOeZ as we hope you get hooked to something we do… I choose hooked since it goes back to the fact the shop is originally a crochet shop.

What do you sell?
As I said earlier we started off with just my crochet. Now a days however we sell my crochet, caramel, and some die cuts, for our handmade area, and now we also sell hair bow making supplies including display cards. Our 1st grade son does the die cuts and has his own tiny etsy shop now at
www.moeskidz.etsy.com, although I still need to put a lot of work into it.

How did you get into your craft?
My crochet work started off at home with my mom. She was very limited in what she would attempt though. She did basically 2 things. She made shell afghans and edged washcloths… I know these don’t even like match each other in how they are done, but as any other child I got tired of moms basic 2 projects and decided I needed more to my crochet knowledge and learned everything else on my own. She is very proud and jealous that her student has out mastered the teacher lol.

My husband is a cook. He has always been interested in culinary arts. So for him candy making is just a natural thing to do. He however isn’t experimental so this actually works out really well for the baking end of the cooking world as that is all down to a science instead of a creative outlet.

We are planning on hitting our 1000th sale in the first quarter of this year!

Today's featured Etsy shop... Frock & Soul Vintage

My name is Juliet and my Etsy shop is Frock & Soul Vintage.

When did you start your Etsy shop?
It opened Dec. 5th 2013 but I didn't officially post anything until Dec. 16th so I count that as the start.

What is the story behind your business name?
I really like puns and names based off things so I took 'Rock 'n' Roll' and turned it into Frock & Soul. I pretty much live in dresses and there is something so poetic about the word 'soul'. I felt the word was also appropriate considering this is a venture I care a lot about.

What do you sell?
I sell vintage clothing, right now just for women but I plan on selling menswear soon. I'd eventually like to sell some crafts as well. I make hair combs out of upcycled materials, I just don't want to bite off more than I can chew right now.

How did you get into your craft?
I've been thrifting for many years now. It makes me happy for reasons I can't explain. The hunt is exciting and I can spend hours sorting through what others might consider junk. A lot of times I find pieces that are stunning but either don't fit me or aren't in a style/color I normally wear but would like to share with others. I had always thought it would be cool to open a shop online but never got around to actually putting my money where my mouth was. So I took the plunge.

Anything else you would like to share?
Just a shout out to my mannequin Darlene, thanks for always staying trim. Hello to Frances, my fox logo that I illustrated on the computer and put on stamps for my wrapping paper and labels. I hope you all come take a look and enjoy what you see!

Today's featured Etsy shop... Wrigley Sparkles Vintage

My name is Meagan and my Etsy shop is Wrigley Sparkles Vintage.

When did you start your Etsy shop?
Technically I opened in 2010 but I didn't actually start my shop until November of 2013.

What is the story behind your business name?
My business is named after our 95 lb dog, who came to us with the name Wrigley already. My then 5 year old was very upset that she wasn't going to get to name him so we let her pick his middle name. And as any 5 year old girl would do she decided on Sparkles so with that our huge male dog is named Wrigley Sparkles. I feel like it is the right mix of hard and soft kind of like the vintage items we sell.

What do you sell?
We sell vintage items, mainly art deco-mid century items. I really try to sell items that not only would I love to have in my own home but that are also unique.

How did you get into your craft?
I have been collecting vintage items for years and everyone is always asking me to unearth some particular treasure so I thought I would set up my own shop and share my passion with others.

Anything else you would like to share?
Vintage is really great because not only is it unique but it is often better made and is much more sustainable then buying new. I love when people walk into my home and just love some vintage find I just hung on the wall. There is something special about adding something with its own history to your home.

Today's featured Etsy shop... Southern Shabby Gal

My name is Angela and my Etsy shop is Southern Shabby Gal.

When did you start your Etsy shop?
I became active 8 months ago.

What is the story behind your business name?
My background is Interior Design and Antiques, and my business name back then was "The Shabby Chick". That name was already taken here on Etsy, so I came up with Southern Shabby Gal as an alternative. Either way, I'm the Shabby Shopgirl! ;)

What do you sell?
I sell Shabby Chic cards for all occasions, journals, smashbooks, bookmarks and I specialize in wedding items.

How did you get into your craft?
I've always been crafty. Many years ago, I got to the point where I had collected so many papers and fabrics that I needed to find a great way to use them.

Anything else you would like to share?
I love custom orders! They are probably 75% of my business. If you have an idea, I will do my best to make it a reality!
